HEELTAPS AND BASTILLE Victorious in Main Races of Open ¬ ing Day Program at Pictur ¬ esque Blue Bonnets MONTREAL Quo June S Racing was ushered in at the picturesque Blue Bonnets this afternoon with the running of the Kin ¬ dergarten Stakes as the feature attraction of an excellent program Trainer Irvine saddled the winner for Edward F Whitney in Heeltaps a daughter of Ultimus Queen of the Water and she easily triumphed over J K L Ross Prismar with A V Thomas Miss Taft third The winner was a pro ¬ nounced choice in the wagering and was ridden by T Parrington ParringtonWhen When the barrier was released Heeltaps vas the first to find her racing legs and drew away into a safe lead Prismar began flatfooted from the outside and was hus ¬ tled after the leaders Parrington allowed the AVhitney starter to race along in lively fashion and saving ground throughonut al ¬ ways dominated the running Prismar made a determined bid but was not good enough to get to the leader which crossed the line by a wide margin and going away Miss Taft showed a flash of early speed but was eased up when beaten The time for the race was 101 and the victory was a popular one with the crowd crowdWeather Weather conditions this afternoon were all that could be desired and a crowd of large proportions was on hand to witness th inaugural card The track proper pro ¬ nounced one of the best was a dash of a mile and brought to ¬ gether a field of eight starters The victor turned up in J K L Ross Bastille making his first start this year Lady Meave took second place and Herron was third thirdBastilles Bastilles success was not easily achieved in fact the Ross colt was tiring at the end and Turner was forced to ride him vigorously to stave off defeat as Lady Meave was gain ¬ ing with every stride and just failed to get up Bastille was probably a trifle short and this race should put him right on edge edgeAuntie Auntie May was the pacemaker to the stretch and had a lead of six lengths when she quit and dropped back with the rear guard Herron ran a fine race to finish third closing an immense gap after begin ¬ ning slowly slowlyThe The opening dash of the afternoon at five and a half furlongs resulted in an easy victory for ViceChairman from Charles J Craigmile and Rolo The latter was the early pacemaker but quit badly when the real test came ViceChairman came from awkward field that faced the starter in the second race at threequarters of a mile with Messines and Camouflage enjoying the favoritism of the crowd Camouflage won in a drive from Messines with Knot Grass third thirdActress Actress was the pacemaker and showed the way to the stretch where she quit badly when overtaken proving to be easy prey for Camouflage Messines and Knot Grass the three moving up and challenging almost at the same time with the abovementioned result resultOnly Only three contested the about two miles steeplechase and Mrs F A Clarks royally bred Blighty II scored an easy triumph over Houyhnhnm while Overmatch after losing his rider at the twelfth jump was re ¬ mounted and finished the course The win ¬ ner was master of the situation at all times and he was not extended at any part of the race raceCommander Commander J K L Ross announced this morning that arrangements had been com ¬ pleted with the Canadian Pacific to run a special train from Windsor Ont to Ottawa on the conclusion of the second meeting at Windsor The train will leave Windsor at 7 p m and arrive at Ottawa at S a m It will be made up of horse cars and sleeping cars and if sufficient business warrants the train will be in two sections Louis Ange vine will have charge of the allotment of space on the train and has the assurance of aH the prominent stables The run will be made in thirteen and a half hours which will constitute a record for the trip between the cities A new departure in the dress of valets was inaugurated this afternoon A neat jacket of dark gray with a cap to
