HEELTAPS* SPLENDID VICTORY; ! Ultimus Colt Defeats J. K. L. Ross Recent Purchase, Lilt, in Juvenile Stakes at Dorval. MONTREAL. Quo.. June M.— Edward P. Whitney furnished the winner of the Dorval j Juvenile stakes in Heeltaps, a chestnut] daughter of Ultimus — Queen of the Water. In i a drive from .1 K. I,. Incidentally! this victory marked a double for trainer ]tine. he having scored with Caretaker In the first race. j The stake fixture brought out a field or. i •■ with Lilt the popular hoii-e. There I was a delaj of a few minutes at the post] : and when the barrier was released Lilt was the first to show in front. The advantage was. however, f short duration, for Partington I sent Heeltaps through on the inside. The two raced as a team and drew away from j the others They increased their advantag ■ I entering the stretch, but the pace began to i tell and both shortened their strides. ! Carmen Fantage? moved up steadily and ! for a second threatened dangerously. Heeltaps I responded courageously under tho whip I and hung on with good courage. Claver went j to the whip OO Lilt and she cut down the ad-vantage of the leader. The two crossed the j finish half a length separating them, but a wide margin ahead of Carmen Pantagl a Weather conditions were vastly improved at Dorval this afternoon and a return to summerlike temperature, with sunshine, served to bring out a noted increase In the attendance. The track had dried out fast, but the best portion of the going was next to the inner rail. The racing was of a formful order, with the public having a good line on the merits of the different performers. The first part of the Whitney double came with the running of the third race, when Caretaker galloped home a length and a half ahead of -Miriam Cooper, the latter just saving second place from the fast finishing Peace Pal. Entering the stretch Pepper Tea loomed up menacingly and even took the lead, then tired and dropped back. C. W. Hall, at private terms this morning, purchased from C. K. Patterson the two-year-old Dixie Pick. Jockey 11. Holloway has been restored to good standing and will resume riding at this meeting. A. Swinke lodged a claim for W. A. Bucks Cote dOr yesterday for .S00. This was the second claim since the season was inaugurated at Toronto. I*. Burdettei Iron Boy picked up a stone this morning and is on the shelf with a bmised foot as the result. Harry Giddinga sold to J. K. L. Ross the two-year-old Lilt which was purchased at auction at Woodbine. Lilt raced in the Ross colors in the. running of the Juvenile. If. E. Bilson claimed Polo out Of the first race for ,8*4 from C. Houbre. The Bilson stable will be shipped to Devonshire Park OH the close here.
