MAPLE HEIGHTS INAUGURAL Crowd of 8,000 People Welcome Return of Thoroughbreds to Cleveland Track. CLEVELAND, Ohio, July 15. Montfort Jones provided the winner of the Maple Heights Inaugural Handicap, the feature of the opening days card of the Ohio State Jockey Club, this afternoon in John S. Rear-don. The speedy son of Ormondale took command immediately after the start and led his opponents by a comfortable margin throughout. After a slow beginning Louis A. disposed of Tailor Maid for the second place. Cof-field, from which considerable was expected, was unable to keep pace with the leaders and was badly beaten off at the finish. Guvnor scored a rather easy victory from some shifty sprinters in the third race. Ikey T. -was a keen factor until the final eighth, but in the closing stages was hard pressed to save second place from the fast closing Lads Love. The Tullett Stable was more fortunate in the initial dash in which Judge Hanecy scored in runaway fashion. For cutting across his field with French Canadian shortly after the start in this race, jockey Taylor had his badge taken up and he will be denied the privileges of the grounds for the remainder of this meeting. Taylors rough riding caused a jam at the far turn which proved fatal to H. Neusteters Straight Shooter. This promising two-year-old all but fell and was so badly cut down that he was destroyed. Old Sinner and Guaranteed scored in their respective races, but Batty H. was hustled to the limit in the closing stages to earn the verdict in the second race. Incidentally, she reduced the track record to 1:06 for five and a half furlongs. A crowd of almost S.000 turned out to witness the sport, which was staged under idea? conditions. Three new track records were established. Guvnor set the three-quarters mark at 1:13, Judge Hanecy the five-eighths in 1:00, and Old Sinner as mentioned above.
