VALUABLE HOPEFUL STAKES Foremost Juvenile Race of Saratoga Meeting Worth Over 0,090 This Year. Tho Hopeful Stakes, to be run on the closing day of the Saratoja meeting, will have a greater moiietary value this year than ever before in its histody and without the expenditure of a dollar on the part of the Saratoga Racing Association, its sponsor. The latter organization guarantees the gross value of the race to be ?30,000. Right now, without including the starting fees of 00 each, the gross value of the stake is ?42,200. That imposing sum is derived from a record-breaking entry list of 2G0 subscriptions of 550 each, with further subscriptions of 0 and 00 each if left in after March 1, 1922, and June 1, 1922, respectively. One entry was void on account of the death of the nominator, leaving tho following paying, as here shown : 1C3 entries at 00 each 3,000 81 entries at 00 each 8,100 22 entries at $ CO each 1,100 1 void, death of nominator Total 200 542,200 The horse finishing second receives ,500 and the third horse ,500, a total of ?5,000. This being deducted from the grand total leaves 37,200 for the winner, exclusive of the starting fees of ?200 each. A field of a dozen starters consequently means that tho coffers of the fortunate owner of the winner will be enriched by a sum in excess of 0,000.
