MESSENGER NOW IN RESERVE SARATOGA SPRINGS, N. Y., August 21. August Belmont has decided that he will not start his good colt Messenger again until the running of the Futurity at Belmont Park next month. The Son of Kair Play and Mission is in the Hopeful Stakes and it was thought that he would be seen under silks in that race, but the Belmont colors have not triumphed in the Futurity since 1S90, when Potomac and Masher raced first and second. The chairman of the Jockey Club has been ambitious of winning the Futurity himself and has had many tries at the prize, but it is doubtful if he has ever had a more promising colt lor this great race than now. Incidentally the Futurity that fell to the elder August Belmonts Potomac, with his stablemate Masher second, was the richest in its history. It netted the winner ,675. Mr. Belmont has two other eligibles to the race in Diagram, a bay son of Fair Play and Dragnet, and Osprey, a chestnut son of Fair Play and Olympia, making all of his candidates sons of the illustrious sire of Man o War.
