GREAT EXTERMINATOR Chicago May See One of Americas Greatest Thoroughbreds. W. S, Kilmer, His Owner, Offers to Ship Horse to Hawthorne Track. Exterminator may be coming to Chicago. The greatest cup horse in American turf history may be seen, at the old Hawthorne track during the coming meeting of the Illinois Jockey Club, which begins on September 30. Chicago has never seen this wonderful racer in action, and Willis Sharpe Kilmer, his owner, being a true sportsman and- feeling that he would like to do something for Chicago lovers of the sport, has wired to the Illinois Jockey Club and also to Judge Joseph A. Murphy, at Windsor, that he would be only too glad to send along Exterminator to start at Hawthorne in a match race or in a special contest against time over a long route with pacemakers, to give the public an opportunity of seeing this grand horse. Mr. Kilmer suggested a suitable cup as a trophy and also stated in his telegram that he did not care for a money consideration other than mere expenses. Judge Murphy also wired to secretary Tom Bourke to try and arrange for a trophy and accepted Kilmers offer. So from all indications Exterminator may be booked as a feature attraction at Hawthorne, and the date will be set by racin secretary Fred W. Gerhardy. If Exterminator comes to Chicago local devotees of the sport will see one of the grandest thoroughbreds of all times of this or any other country. His career on the turf is but a history of superior achievements by a superior horse. From a modest beginning as a two-year-old of seemingly only moderate class Exterminator burst upon the racing horizon and became famous overnight by winning the Kentucky Derby in 1918. The seal to his fame, however, did not come as a three-year-old. His greatest deeds and triumphs were recorded as a four, five, six and seven-year-old. From an humble two-year-old and a Derby winner as a three-year-old Exterminator became one of the greatest handicap and long-distance racers of this or any other country. He has no equal as a cup winner, capturing the Saratoga Cup four times, the Pimlico Cup three times, the Autumn Gold Cup and Toronto Autumn Gold Cup each twice, in addition to carrying weight as high as 137 pounds successfully over all distances, being almost invincible at distances from one and a quarter to two miles or more, particularly so over a heavy track. Exterminator is gifted with the speed of a sprinter, while weight and distance never had any terrors for him. His crowning feat of his long and glorious career was passing the 00,000 winning mark, only one other horse in American turf history sharing that honor, and that the mighty Man o War. Great will be the rejoicing of local turf followers on the arrival of such a wonderful horse as Exterminator and certainly nothing could be more" appropriate than to have this popular racer here to take part in the restoration of racing in Illinois.
