OFF-DAY AT LEXINGTON Fields Are Small and Composed of Cheap Selling Platers. Honolulu Boy Biggest Disappointment of . Afternoon Jockey E. Pool Hides Three "Winners. c LEXINGTON, Ky., September 21. The difficult track was responsible for an off day aspect in connection with the fifth days racing here. The different dashes were made up of ordinary horses and small numbers, at that, to strive for the purses. Claiming clauses attached to the entire racing card, but nothing attractive presented itself for the consideration of the halter brigade, hence no transfers of any of the starters. In the absence of anything better and by virtue of its being at the longest distance, the fourth race attracted most interest and brought with it a downfall for backers of the favorites when Honolulu Boy failed to get home ahead of Dr. Gilbert. The latter showed the most speed from the start and during the final drive held Honolulu Boy safe. Gammer Gurton, an absentee from racing in this section for some time, found track conditions exactly to his liking in the initial dash and had little difficulty staying in the lead for the entire race and easily defeated Louanna and Mom. The latter, as well as De Bonero, found considerable support, but ran below expectations. Ailsie Vernor, carrying C. T. Worthing-tons colors and backed to the exclusion or the others in the second race, found slight trouble leading the others from the start and after shaking off Mammon -drew out decisively to win as his rider pleased. Finday, of which much was expected, failed emphatically under a listless ride and brought up In third place. ANOTHER FOR F. J. KELLEY. F. J. Kelleys silks again were to the fore when his Lady Mother got to the finish a scant half length before Lieut. Colonel after a spirited stretch duel, with Stamp in third place. . Lady Mother seemed suited by the deep going and disposed of Stamp readily when called on, but she was forced to do her best near the end to outstay the fast coming Officer. Some fairly good sprinters comprised the field in the fifth, at three-quarters, and Easteside was the winner, but only after a hard stretch drive to overhaul the lightly weighted Glyn, which left the barrier as if about to make a runaway race of it and showed the others her heels until well along in the last eighth before giving way to the winners determined bid. Ruby and Commander McMeekin fought it out for third place, with Ruby outstaying the Marshall representative. Antonia was another favorite to gladden the favorite backers and she beat a band of two-year-old fillies that started in the sixth race with ease after having permitted Anna Tod and Teds Plum to show her the way until far in the stretch. Antonia, however, never left the result in doubt after being freed from restraint, for she sprinted away from Teds Plum with evident ease. Dearie came fast at the end to land in third place. MORMON ELDERS GREAT FINISH. With two victories to his credit on Easteside and Antonia E. Pool made it a perfect score for the day by also landing Mormon Elder the winner in the closing dash. Mor-non Elder during the early stages of the race did not appear much of a winning proposition, for he was far out of it, but after reaching the half-mile ground he suddenly became active and during the last quarter came around the others like a whirlwind and won easily from Walnut Hall and War Prize. Rep and Travesty, the early leaders, tired fast in the stretch. Jockey A. Wilson was forced to cancel his engagements after the first race on account of an injury he sustained while riding Colossus. Many owners here are desirous of shipping to Chicago for the racing at Hawthorne, but are waiting for definite advices concerning the propqsed meeting, and are awaiting the arrival of some representative from Chicago. William Perkins announced this afternoon that he intended an extensive winter campaign on New Orleans tracks and will ship thirty horses to the Crescent City. They will include Radio, Easteside, Honor Man and his other frequent winners. He will ship after the close of the Latonia racing.
