I TO THE PUBLIC The Illinois Jockey Club will throw open the gates of the Hawthorne race track Saturday, September 30, for twelve days of racing. The public will be welcomed at prices within reach of all. The war has left some scars on the property, but all must be patient. We have sufficient horses ami competent jockeys to insure good cc-tests. We have officials of esta-lished reputation. We ask even thos who do not favor horse racing tr reserve judgment. Every owner, trainer and jockey will be held , to strict account for his conduct on the , grounds and off. Every horse will be i tried to the limit of its powers. Rough I and foul riding will not be tolerated. I We will conduct a clean sporting i proposition that will be a credit to j the city. If at the end of twelve days the public verdict is that we have failed to keep our promise we will ask no further suffrage. Let every citizen of Chicago keep in mind that this is the only metropolis in the worlc? without horse racing. j JOSEPH A. MURPHY, General Manager. J
