SEAGRAM STABLES COLORS Carried to Victory at Kenilworth by Speedy Brilliant Jester. J. McTaggart Rides Pair of Winners Several Stables to Ship to Hawthorne Next Sunday. WINDSOR, Ont, October 5. The Seagram Stable, which has been cutting quite a swath in the racing at Kenilworth this fall, furnished the winner of todays feature race in its colt Brilliant Jester, which beat a band of the fastest horses on the grounds in the fourth race, a dash of seven-eighths. Brilliant Jester was ridden by E. Ambrose and followed the speedy Carmandale for six of the seven eighths, taking the lead in the stretch, to win shaken up at the end. Brilliant Jester established a new track record for Kenilworth when he ran the seven-eighths in 1 :25. The fractional time was 23, 46. John McTaggart rode a pair of winners in Speedy Lady and War Tank. The former carried the colors of the Kenton Stable, while War Tank scored for M. Gorman. Garfield raced home by the smallest of margins in the second race, when he beat Tricks out by a nose. Parisian Diamond is reported to have developed a slight fever and this may delay the shipment of the Seagram racers to Kentucky. Frank J. Bruen, general manager of the Cuba-American Jockey and Auto Club, was an arrival today. He brings flattering reports of prospects for the greatest meeting ever held at Oriental Parle During his recent visit to Havana he attended a meeting of the proprietors of the principal hotels, at which a resolution was passed to make every effort to attract the tourists to Cuba next winter. A standard rate of reasonable charges was adopted, which means that visitors will be treated the same as regular patrons at all times. Six new hotels have been opened up in Havana and several new restaurants. The change in policy from the syndicate ring to mutuels has been commended by both horsemen and public alike, also the elimination of stakes in favor of increased added moneys to the overnight races. This policy will attract better and more horses to Cuba. A battery of thirty-seven machines has been installed. The track superintendent has had a staff at work on the track proper since August 15 and the going is in better condition just now than at any time since Oriental Park was constructed. NORVELL TO MAPLE HEIGHTS. At the conclusion of the meeting Wash Norvell leaves for Cleveland. He will act as presiding judge and racing secretary during the last week at the Maple Heights meeting. Lancelot was jumped on in his last race, which accounted for his poor showing. The horses injuries will lay him up for a week or ten days. The Kenton Stable, which is gathering together a useful string of platers for a campaign at one of the winter tracks, has acquired, by private purchase from A. V. Thomas, the two-year-old Seths Lemon. W. Caywood, E. E. Watson and A. L. Briggs have arranged to leave here for Chicago on Sunday. In the event of F. H. Smith being unable to secure stalls at Latonia he will send Merrimac and other horses in his string in the same car. Jockey J. McTaggart will leave for Laurel on Sunday and will ride for the Kenton Stable during the remainder of the Maryland fall season. A. C. Henderson, who looks after the engagements of jockey F. Wilson, will go from here to Cleveland for the closing week of the Maple Heights meeting and from there to Laurel. Joseph McLennan will be forced to decline the offer of an engagement at Tijuana next winter, on account of a previous engagement with the Business Mens Racing Associatioh of New Orleans. Mrs. P. J. Graham and C. F. Clark have decided to send their horses from here to Latonia. W. A McKinney has released the call he held on jockey Weiner.
