WINS THE CAULFIELD CUP SYDNEY, Australia, October 15. The famous Australian race, the 0,000 Caulfielrt Cup, was run for October 21 and won by Whittier, 20 to 1, by a length, from Tanga-loonia, 12 to 1, with Purser, the 9 to 2 favorite, third, half a length away. The time for the race equalled the Cup record of 2:32 at one and a half miles. The attendance was enormous, some seventy thousand, and the weather perfect. The crowd was phenomenal, considering that on the morning of the race there was a great fire at the Caulfield course. It followed an explosion and consumed the members and press stands and telegraph offices. The explosion and fire were suspected incendiarism.
