- A z: DISCUSS RACING MEASURES Several Proposed Bills to Be Considered at Sunday Meeting. Nearly 400 Downstatc Newspapers Reported in FaTor of Reviving the Sport by Legislative Action. Officials of the Illinois Jockey Club, under whose auspices the successful fourteen days meeting at Hawthorne during September and October was held, will meet at their club headquarters in the Garrick Theater Building Sunday afternoon for the purpose of considering several proposed racing bills to be presented to the Illinois legislature, which convenes at Springfield in January. Nearly 400 downstate newspapers have been polled during the last few weeks, according to Illinois Jockey Club officials, and it is declared have promised the racing bill their unqualified support and co-operation. Various committees will be formed to begin active work of planning for one of the greatest race meetings ever held in this country at the Hawthorne track, to be held beginning May 19 and to continue for twenty-one racing days, thus taking in Decoration Day and bringing the meeting to a close on Saturday, June 9. An outstanding feature of the work to be done is the entire reconstruction of the restaurant building at Hawthorne. No limit will be placed on the amount of money to be spent in establishing a high-class cafe, where diners can obtain a service equal to that on any race course in the United States. Secretary Thomas E. Bourke has under consideration several offers from some of the best-known caterers and restaurant owners in the country who are willing to rebuild the restaurant at Hawthorne and place it on a high standard. The membership plans will be fully completed at Sundays meeting and it is intended to make various classes of membership, entailing various privileges, including life memberships. The funds from these memberships will be devoted to the erection of better j quarters in the upper section of the Hawthorne grandstand, with high-class lounging rooms and other accommodations. An advance copy of one proposed bill, which probably will be changed in some slight degree, will be found on page 2 of this edition of Daily Racing Form.
