RED CLOVER was saved under restraint until in the last turn of the field, then moved up with a rush when COURTEOUS unseated his rider and, taking a long lead, was being eased up all through tho last sixteenth. CREST HILL finished with a rush and. catching the rider of RED CLOVER napping, almost got up to win. EARLOCKER bumped into COURTEOUS when going to the tenth jump and the latter unseated his rider. Won driving; second and third tha same. LITTLE HOPE took the lead quickly and, setting a good pace, withstood a menacing challenge from EVELYN SAWYER on the far turn and gamely outfinished SEA TAG. The latter closed an immense gap and finished with a rush. MAJORITY also made up ground and came fast through the stretch. HOY ran well and finished close up. HILLHOUSE closed a gap and tired. CAPTAIN ALCOCK, after being saved under restraint for the first mile and a haH, responded with a rush when called on and, moving up into second place, passed PAUL JONES in the last quarter and won going away. PAUL JONES slipped through on the inside on the turn into the backstretch in the last time around and, taking the lead, kept it gamely until in the last eighth. EXTERMINATOR tired after forcing an unduly fast pace for the first mile and finished an cased-up third. ATHELSTAN was close up from the start, but tired after racing into the lead in the stretch. POLLY ANN raced BEST PAL into defeat and took the lead, but tired badly in the stretch drive. BEST PAL set the early pace and ran well under his impost. LEGHORN could never get up. BLUFFER showed speed, but tired in the last half.
