WYNNEWOOD REVIVAL Runs to His True Form and De ¬ feats Good Horses Easily Leslie Also Furnishes Something of a Surprise Big Fields Con ¬ test at the Fair Grounds NEW ORLEANS La January 17 In the mile and a sixteenth dash that featured the card today came an outstanding upset as a result of Wynnewoods victory in easy style over Servitor with Royce Rools the favorite in third place Wynnewood was at long odds and the layers liberality in a measure was due in addition to his recent bad racing to the horses withdrawal Saturday whan track conditions were about the same as this aft ¬ ernoon It was said that the reason for the withdrawal of the horse then was because of his having sore heels and that the firm track would operate against him There was little evidence this forenoon of the fast track interfering with the horses full action He was in a forward position from the start stood a drive gamely and all through the stretch held the race easily safe Servitor with an outer position came fast through the stretch and outfinished Royce Rools The latter was a sufferer by being cut off several times and had to try to come through a nar ¬ row opening in the stretch He might have won with conditions equal In addition to the purse a handsome cup went to the win ¬ ning owner and a floral horseshoe to the jockey both were gifts of the SL Charles Players for whom the race was named namedTodays Todays card was of an offday character enabling the ordinary ones to race It brought out unwieldy fields and made for a reduction in ring activities There was a big falling off in the ranks of the layers only fortythree operating which was a decrease of ten from the previous number numberFAVORITES FAVORITES IN ECLIPSE ECLIPSEThe The racing was fairly interesting despite the lack of features and several close fin ¬ ishes enlivened proceedings Favorites were in eclipse although they figured as factors in the finishes of most of the dashes dashesThe The poor band of maidens that started in the opener had Kennmare the favored one and she was best but a slow beginning brought about her undong the purse going to Louis Lichtenheim with Gondolier in third place placeMahony Mahony scored a lucky victory in the sec ¬ ond He was away forwardiy and a sharp contender from the start whereas Fred Kin ney which finished second had to close an immense gap after his poor beginning Kirklevington the favorite in this was left at the post postLeslie Leslie which has not been performing in impressive style in several recent races was in his best form in the third and won with ease from Elizabeth Bean and Chiva ChivaZone Zone dArmee was given the call in the fifth race and again did the favorite backers suffer disappointment Grass Tree won here after some hard riding Zone dArmee landed in second place and Prince Welles third thirdSt St Donard was a pronounced favorite in the sixth but his chances went glimmering when Romanelli used faulty judgment and got him interfered with repeatedly This caused him to lose third place The winner was Lampus which outstayed the fast com ¬ ing Fornovo Citation an outsider landed third thirdLITTLE LITTLE AM3IIE NARROWLY NARROWLYLittle Little Ammie a slight favorite accounted for the closing race but had to be ridden hard near the end to outstay the well meant Encrinite with War Prize an outsider in third place The suicidal pacemaking tactics employed by Corcoran and McDer mott astride Tulsa and Carnarvon respect ¬ ively accounted for their elimination before going threequarters Bravo which had been prominent in the early running bled just before reaching the stretch and was pulled up upSecretary Secretary Joe McLennan announced this afternoon that entries to the Mardi Gras Handicap to be run on the closing day here February 13 would close February 3 3Jockey Jockey Schwartz suspension of fifteen days incurred at Jefferson Park terminated today and he was given a license to ride rideAbout About fifty subscriptions have already been made to the A B Dade Memorial Fund FundThe The drop of ten layers from the ranks was reflected in the ring this afternoon by de ¬ creased activity
