TWOYEAROLD RACE Overshadows Other Contests at Havana in Point of Interest Williams Bros Furnish Winner in inQuail Quail Split Grass Victorious Victoriousin in Great Finish HAVANA Cuba January 171 The running of the twoyearold race at Oriental Park this afternoon overshadowed the other races in point of interest There were ten carded of which several of them were Cubanbreds which were making their first appearance under colors colorsThe The Williams Brothers furnished the win ¬ ner in Quail a bay filly by the imported stal lion Iron Cross II Chanteuse Quail was fa ¬ vored by the inside post position and mads all the pace winning in easy fashion from one of the W R Coe entries Sleigh Bells which beat Liborio Then followed Chaparra the last two named being Cuban bred Cha ¬ parra ran a smashing good race for the first time out and will undoubtedly improve on this performance He is a great big colt and when the start came left the barrier slowly He showed a good flash of speed from tha top of the stretch to the eighth post postBlazing Blazing Fire made a runaway affair of the second finding no trouble beating tho favorite Canny Lady by a couple of lengths Kentmere and Good Enough raced like a team the entire way in the third and in the final drive Kentmere proved the gamer of the two and won by a head Blaise which finished third showed plenty of speed when too late lateAMERICAN AMERICAN LEGION EASILY EASILYAmerican American Legion was an easy winner in the fourth Brothers had him under re ¬ straint in the early stages and after follow ¬ ing the leaders to the stretch turn assumed an easy lead and won easily from Twenty Seven The pacemakers Pittsburg and Fly ¬ ing Orb quit to a walk in the last sixteenth and the latter pulled up lame lameSix Six of the nine starters in the fifth fought it out gamely all through the homestretch Fifty yards from the finish mark five of them were stretched across the track and in the last twenty yards Split Grass which was on tho inside drew away and won by a length The next five were noses and heads apart There were many new faces in the throngs on the clubhouse veranda today Among those enjoying the races were Edward S Wilkinson of North Adams Mass William R Graves of Bennington Vt Mr and Mrs William G Brady Mr and Mrs Edward H Floyd Jones Mr and Mrs William Rooney Mrs H M Barret of New York City all of whom are guests at the Alman dares Hotel HotelJohn John H Havlin the Cincinnati theatrical magnate and hotel man was also one of tha visitors in the clubhouse clubhouseMr Mr and Mrs Milton Lipper of New York City entertained some of their Cuban friends before the races racesPROMINENT PROMINENT AMERICANS ARRIVE R C Padgett who is prominent in the po ¬ litical world in Baltimore arrived today on his annual visit He was a guest of starter Milton during the afternoon Mr Padgett is accompanied by his son William Padgett and Richard Proctor a business man of Baltimore BaltimoreE E Newman attorney of the Queens County Jockey Club was numbered among the visitors at Oriental Park Mr Newman is a prominent lawyer of Brooklyn and was accompanied by M Karlsruhe and B May also of Brooklyn This is Mr Newmans first visit to Havana and he is thoroughly enamored of the place He declared yester day that Oriental Park is the finest race track he has ever visited visitedG G Feisey sold to H A Cotton at private terms Charles Whitney a threeyearold gelding by McGee Donna Mamoma MamomaDouglas Douglas Fuller an apprentice jockey who is under contract to Edward Seagram tho Canadian sportsman arrived here today and will ride under the direction of Lee Madi ¬ son for the remainder of the meeting meetingJockey Jockey C Landcrville another one of tho Seagram apprentices has been ordered to re ¬ port to the Seagram farm at Waterloo Ont and will depart next Saturday Mr Madison received word from trainer W II Bringloe of the Seagram stable that all the horses t in winter quarters are doing fine
