KENTUCKY DERBY MAY 19 Famous Race Will Not Conflict ConflictWith With Preakness This Year Money Same as Last Year LEXINGTON Ky January 17 The Ken ¬ tucky Derby will be run on Saturday May 19 Colonel Matt J Winn of the Kentucky Jockey Club made this announcement after the State Racing Commission meeting yes ¬ terday He also announced that the purses at Churchill Downs and Latonia would be the same as last year The same stake races will also be run the Clark Handicap and one of the twoyearold fixtures being run at Churchill Downs on the opening day May 12 In changing the date of the Derby from the first to the second Saturday of the meet ¬ ing the Kentucky Jockey Club offers horse ¬ men who have entries in both the Preakness and Derby an opportunity to start them in both races if they so desire as the Preak ¬ ness will be run on May 12 12The The purses at Lexington will be 800 with handicaps and stakes ranging from 1500 to 3000 for the spring meeting meetingThe The purses at Ashland and Henderson Dade Park will be the same as at Lexing ¬ ton tonThe The horsemen welcome the coming of Ashland and Dade Park into the circuit since it assures them occupation during July and August without having to go to Canada with its every seven days shipping or going to the various halfmile tracks in other states for smaller meetings
