WILD HORSES WILD HORSES TwentyFive of Them and Their Leader a Runaway Thoroughbred SAN DIEGO Cal January 27 Wild horses This was the report brought back to the Tijuana track by M J Keefe a wellknown turfman when after a search of the Mexican hills for a day in an attempt to locate a twoyearold thoroughbred colt which had wandered out of his stable the night before he ran across a herd of wild horses feeding in a sheltered pasture in a canyon canyonKeefe Keefe who wao accompanied on his search by several stablemen whose veracity is not questioned declares that lie found his colt among the band of wild horses but that all attempts to get near enough to the animal to capture it proved futile futileWe We first noticed the band I would say about twentyfive horses from the top of a high peak said Keefe in relating his ex ¬ perience I saw them through my race glasses and so did the three other men with me Then I picked out my colt and he appeared to be the leader We crawled on our hands and knees to the top of the canyon but the horses scented us and witli my thoroughbred in the lead they were off like a lot of Derby runners We ex ¬ plored all of the country around for ten miles but could find no further trace of the band bandKeefe Keefe whose loss will he quite heavy if he fails to recapture his colt is organizing an ¬ other searching party The horsemen will be equipped for a more extensive foray and hope to attain results The carelessness of a groom in leaving the stable door unlocked is blamed for Keefes colt joining the band of wild horses
