DR HICKMAN SPEEDY Shows Dazzling Speed in Account ¬ ing for Havanas Main Race Ballynew Beats Assumption in inStirring Stirring Finish Tony Beau BeauFirst First in Good Contest HAVANA Cuba February 6 Dr Hick man the Tony Bonero gelding which races for the Williams Bros ran one of the best races of his career when he won the Tourist Handicap at Oriental Park this afternoon He carried 112 pounds was ridden by T Burns and set his opponents a terrific pace from the start drawing away into a com ¬ manding lead in the first eighth He won easily at the end by a couple of lengths from East View The winner ran the threequar ¬ ters in 1 11 the first quarter in 22 and the half in 45 It was the fastest half mile ever run over the Oriental Park track trackBallynew Ballynew shouldered top weight of 117 pounds in the fourth and triumphed over Assumption in a stirring stretch drive The winner was taken back off the pace and Burns waited until straightened out for the final run before making a move hugging the rail all the way while Assumption went wide The latter was gaining in the last eighth and probably would have beaten the winner in another stride or two twoA A good band of platers went to the post in the sixth a dash of a mile The winner turned up in Tony Beau The latter followed the leaders to the stretch where he slipped through next to the inside rail and taking the lead was never afterward headed fin ¬ ishing a length in front of Lucy Kate at the end endTOM TOM MORRIS REPEATER REPEATERTom Tom Norris showed that he was a repeater by coming back after his victory Sunday and winning the opening dash this afternoon He followed the leaders in the early stages but in the stretch came from behind and finishing fast won going away awayMemphis Memphis was a surprise in the second Walls kept at him from the start and in the final eighth when the pacemakers began to tire Memphis responded with a great burst of speed and beat Hullo by a length Major Domo suffered from a weak ride and and finished third thirdBrunner Brunner rode in overconfident race on Pony Express in the third In the early run ¬ ning he permitted Confederacy to draw away into a commanding lead and when the leader began to tire Pony Express gained on the colt and finishing on his own courage Con ¬ federacy was staggering at the finish and lasted just long enough to gain the decision by a neck Pony Express was four lengths in front of Happy Moments MomentsMORE MORE AMERICAN VISITORS VISITORSMr Mr and Mrs William Stearns of Detroit guests at the Almandarcs Hotel were club ¬ house visitors today The Stearns are spend ¬ ing a month in Havana with a party of Day ¬ ton Ohio people who were also interested spectators of the races from the clubhouse veranda They included Mr and Mrs L T Cooper Jay B Cooper and L I Cooper Other clubhouse guests were H Leonard of Paris France D C Clark of Louisville Ky E H Cobb and Fred E Schmidt of Philadelphia and Mr and Mrs N Allison of St Louis LouisMr Mr and Mrs Charles E Haeberle and Harry E Stine of Niagara Falls who have been enjoying their visit here left today for Miami Fla where they will pass the remainder of the winter winterJ J S Wallace has been notified of his ap ¬ pointment to the position of clerk of the course at the new Ashland Kentucky track He occupies a similar position at Oriental Park and the tracks of the Kentucky Jockey Club His latest appointment was hailed with pleasure by the Kentucky horsemen racing at Oriental Park
