PROTEST AGAINST CHARTER But Certificate of Chicago Wash ¬ ington Park Club Is Upheld Much Interest Being Displayed in Legislative LegislativeCircles Circles Over Restoring Racing Racing1m 1m Illinois SPRINGFIELD HI February 9 A pro ¬ test was filed with Secretary of State Em merson against the granting of incorporation papers to the Chicago Washington Park Club The organization was granted a cer ¬ tificate a few days ago and the protest came from William E Golden one of the incor porators of the Washington Park Racing Association which came into existence last October OctoberGolden Golden charges infringement on the cor ¬ porate name of his organization in a telegram to the secretary of state He was informed that the certificate of the Chicago Washing ¬ ton Park Club will not be cancelled as the names are not the same though similar similarPURPOSE PURPOSE OF CLUB CLUBWhen When the Washington Park Racing Asso ¬ ciation was incorported by Golden last Octo ¬ ber it stated its purposes to be 1 To promote the breeding of horses 2 To hold race meetings 3 To hold the American Derby DerbyThe The Chicago Washington Park Club in incorporating a few days ago stated its purpose as follows followsI I For the encouragement of clean and healthful horse racing 2 To restore to Illinois the prominence of the American Derby DerbyOther Other incorporators in Mr Goldens or ¬ ganization are Dorothy Golden his wife re ¬ siding at 5351 West Adams Street and J J Cook 111 West Monroe Street Chicago III IIIThe The Chicago Washington Park Club has come into existence with some of Chicagos most prominent and influential business men and sportsmen back of it They seek to re ¬ store the sport in a legitimate way by asking the general assembly to pass laws regulating thoroughbred racing racingSentiment Sentiment among friends of racing who have been in Springfield since the legislature convened is for a restoration of the sport of kings on the highest possible plane in Illinois Many downstate members are ex ¬ pected to support a racing bill sponsored by a responsible organization They are not much concerned about who brings back the American Derby just so Illinois can present race meetings second to none in the country countryThe The first racing bill has put in its appear ¬ ance It was offered by Senator Denvir Dem Chicago Others are to follow and friends of the sport are ready to pick out the best Not in years has so great an interest in bringing racing back to Illinois been ex ¬ pressed in the state capital
