TIJUANAS INVITING CARD Sundays Program Made Up of Eight Races at Mile or Over Abadane Well Ridden by Veteran Dngan DnganScores Scores Another Trinmph Domlnator DomlnatorTroTCS TroTCS Best at 1 12 Miles Distance SAN DIEGO Cal February 12 There was a time when a horse was not declared good until he had established his ability to run over a long distance of ground Then they trained horses to go a long route That was years ago Sundays program at Ti ¬ juana reminded turf followers of those old days It can briefly be told eight races at a mile or more moreAs As was to be expected this exceptional program drew a great crowd even though the day was not propitious to make for numbers It was an inandout afternoon with sun and rain clouds battling for su premacy with a precipitation coming toward the closing races Even as early as Satur ¬ day afternoon there were many forecasts that the capacity of the spacious plant would be taxed Hotels are a barometer of attendance at Tijuana Saturday night the early in ¬ flux crowded the San Diego hosteleries Those who arrived today were compelled to take pot luck They did not complain complainHeavy Heavy was the course but this did not prove to dampen the enthusiasm Even un ¬ der lead gray skies there was some brilliance to the parade for the afternoons feature This was the sixth race the Omar Khayyam Handicap at a mile and a quarter This was named in honor of Mrs Wilfrid Viau whose husband as owner of the Foreign Stable made a great name in his time in the racing world Mrs Viau lias just arrived from the East for a winter here herePUBLIC PUBLIC LUKEWARM LUKEWARMAll All thoughts of sprinters were discarded as the talent scanned the program for the headliner Despite thefact that there was a field of seven and the consistent perfor ¬ mances of Abadane since joining the C B Irwin string the public attempted to settle on some horse to beat this son of Maboul It was futile Considering the recent feats of this runner it was reported that the books would not hold him too cheaply and although only 6 to 5 figures were quoted the backers did not take to him any too kindly with the result that Abadane paid the good price of 2 to 1 after winning as a much shorter priced horse horseThere There Avas a delay of only three minutes at the post when starter Morrissey sent the field away on even terms The lightly weighted Alleden with only eightyfive pounds on his back showed the way for more than a mile with jockey E Dugan master of the saddle a decade back keeping Abadane within striking distance of the pace When they turned for home Abadane as ¬ sumed the lead at the far turn and gamely withstood all challenges to win by half a length Nearest to him at the finish was Continued on twelfth page TIJUANAS INVITING CARD Continued from first page Halu and in third position was Tailor Maid second choice in the betting Alleden which created quite a sensation by cutting out the pace tired from early efforts and was fourth fourthThe The ride of the veteran Dugan recalled to the minds of many his best efforts when years ago he was bringing home winners and his skill was such that he could choose his mounts He showed his old skill in the saddle and the victory of Abadane was due in a large measure to Dugans ability to judge pace and distance There was a big ovation for him as he dismounted and his clever riding of Abadane undoubtedly will create a demand for his services servicesAnother Another rider yet to have his name her ¬ alded rode a grand race during the after ¬ noon This is Freddie Watrous a boy who if he keeps on riding as he did Sunday aft ¬ ernoon will make Oak Creek Col famous aside from its wealth of minerals Watrous had the mount on Dominator a horse which carried the colors of Lonnie Tryon well known western plunger It was the seventh race of the card and at one and onehalf miles It was not to be expected that one so young in the saddle would know how to handle a horse in an event of such distance hut Watrous rode with the technique of a Murphy and after getting Dominator to the front lie rated him superbly to produce him a winner by more than a length Second to Dominator was N K Beal while Tag Day closing with a rush was third It was the first winner that Watrous had had and his face was wreathed in smiles as he saluted the judges judgesAt At the time of the eighth race the track was in bad condition for a drizzling rain was falling It was at a mile and 70 yards and Rajah was made the favorite He proved to be right at home in the going and com ¬ pany After making all the pace he won by four and a half lengths with jockey Stevens having nothing to do Horace Lerch was second and Regreso the former Irwin bread ¬ winner was third There was a move on the part of many to wager on Whippet to get some part of it but this horse did not run as well for R H Good as he had for Blackie MacCool his former owner and finished fourth fourthIrwin Irwin was represented in the race by She Devil and with this racing tool he claimed Regreso from Z E McGregor the claim be ¬ ing for 51700
