JEFFERSON PROSPERS Attendance Up to a Profitable Standard So Far Fair Grounds Meeting Reaped a aComfortable Comfortable Sum Mobile MobileMeeting Meeting Assured NEW ORLEANS La February 25 The last week brought no changes in the general racing action here and interest in the sport continued unabated although the attendance is not up to the standard set by the Fair Grounds The Jefferson Park management however has no fault to find with the crowds that have been daily spectators of the racing at the Shrewsbury course and tourists are still insuring a continuance of a big visiting list for some time to augument the regular race followers There has been some deflec ¬ tions from the regular ranks They were mostly easterners who returned to New York and will continue passive until the opening of the metropolitan racing season seasonTom Tom Shaws departure and Frank Shan ¬ nons inactivity has left the ring here with ¬ out leaders and also curtailed betting opera ¬ tions to some extent The good breaks that the layers have had in spots however is causing a steady market marketThe The lack of rain has caused the Jefferson Park track to become dusty and deep near the inner rail and the more quick thinking riders are trying for the middle of the track where a firm ridge insures better footing for their mounts Form reversals because of the deep and dusty going are inevitable inevitableThat That of AVar Zones last Saturday is at ¬ tributed to other causes than a change in the track The stewards will probe the matter deeply Meantime War Zone and others in the A F Dayton stable will be denied the privilege of starting until the investigation is completed completedNO NO FAIR JUOUXDS DIAIDEXDS DIAIDEXDSAt At a meeting of the Fair Grounds directors held during the early part of the week it was disclosed that the thirtyeight days meeting recently closed was eminently suc ¬ cessful and that 176000 was realized All this money will go toward liquidating debts and maintenance of the plant until the next race meeting Because of the heavy indebt edness stockholders in the Fair Grounds will not receive a dividend It is now more than five years since the stockholders have had a dividend and the association still has numer ¬ ous pressing liabilities liabilitiesMobile Mobile has made its decision to stage an elevendays meeting to follow Jefferson Park Ten days will be under the auspices of the Business Mens Racing Association of Mobile and the other day will be for charities It is said that the business interests In Mobile have guaranteed against loss and that purses will not be of less than 500 There will be six races daily Joseph A Murphy will have charge of the racing details and the selection of officials Snyder and Hamilton will alter ¬ nate as starters and M McFarland will prob ably serve as racing secretary There will be no difficulty about securing horses and an initial canvas here among the owners showed that there were more willing to go to Mobile than can be accommodated The Mobile track is only a half mile and stable accommo ¬ dations are available for about 300 horses It is the intention of the racing promoters to build a mile track for next year and they have already secured site for it itThe The Kentucky stakes which closed last night attracted vast interest here and the horsemen forwarded an immense amount of nominations from here It is generally con ¬ ceded that the Kentucky tracks will again lead the others in this country with purse and stake offerings offeringsSo So far Messrs Hamilton and Snyder have not heard of their appointments to do the starting but it is expected that they will be advised of this before the meeting here terminates terminatesThe The SimmsXalapa Farm Stable which in ¬ cludes Southern Cross Missionary Poe and others will be shipped tomorrow to Havre do Grace where they will be rested until the opening of the racing at that track 11 IX Curly Brown departed last night for Havana where he will make an extended visit visitJockey Jockey Harbourne who fell with Irene AValton Thursday and was then thought to luive escaped injury had to be taken to a local hospital yesterday as he lapsed into semiconsciousness and has remained in that condition since
