H P WHITNEYS JUVENILES His String of Youngsters at Ben Benning ning Reported Near Condition First of the Johrens WASHINGTON D C March 13 The Benning trainers seem to think that the two yearolds of the H P Whitney stable F Hopkins is handling are nearer racing condi ¬ tion than any other youngsters at the old Washington Jockey Club track Hopkins does not know the pedigrees of his budding racers James Rowe has not sent the in ¬ formation on Hopkins youngsters train by numbers However one of the fastest is a colt by Johren the threeyearold hero of 191S in which year he won the Belmont and Lawrence Realization Stakes the Latonia Derby Suburban Handicap and Saratoga Cup Johren is standing at Harry Payne Whitneys Brookdale Farm in New Jersey Like Chicle which sent Cherry Pie Enchant ¬ ment Chickvale Pickcter and Rialto to the laces last year Johren is a son of Spearmint and big things are expected of him This colt in care of Hopkins probably will be the first Johren to show under silks He is a big coarse fellow of the Johron type Spear ¬ mint blood is beginning to show in all parts of the world Royal Lancer one of the Eng ¬ lish stars of last year was by the son of Carbine which won the Epsom Derby and the Grand Prix de Paris and was universally proclaimed the greatest threeyearold runner of his time timeOther Other WTiitney youngsters at Benning arc by Pennant Broomstick Chicle and Thun ¬ derer Thunderer a son of Broomstick and Jersey Lightning won the Futurity of 1015 He is a brother to Regret the only filly that ever won the Kentucky Derby
