ILLINOIS RACING MEASURE To Be Introduced in Legislature at Springfield This Week Bill to Limit Profits to 10 Per Cent Has Sup Support port of Both Harness and Running RunningHorse Horse Interests Word comes from the officials of the Chi ¬ cago Washington Park Club that the racing measure backed by business men and promi ¬ nent sportsmen not only of Chicago but all parts of Illinois will be introduced in the state legislature at Springfield this week weekThis This bill it is said provides for 100 days of racing under the parimutuel system of wagering regulated by a state racing com ¬ mission of three members appointed by the governor It limits ail tracks to a profit of not more than 10 per cent on their invest ¬ ments mentsThe The measure was drawn up several weeks ago but numerous changes in the original draft have been made in order to satisfy the different Illinois racing and breeding bodies Copies now are in the hands of the printer and will be ready for distribution early this week at which time the original bill will put in an appearance at Springfield SpringfieldAction Action in the general assembly Is expected within a short time Many members of both houses have already had a chance to take a look at the bill An early public hearing will likely be ordered and the bill may be either passed or rejected by early April giv ¬ ing local tracks a chance to get ready for racing later in the year as the Hawthorne course is the only one over which a meeting could be run in the early part of the summer summerThe The racing measure will go to the capital under conditions much different from those under which similar measures have been in ¬ troduced at former sessions It is the first Lill probably due to the class of men behind it that has ever been able to win much sup ¬ port downstate It also has the backing of both the harness and running race bodies witli scores of breeding organizations for it because all profits over the 10 per cent al ¬ lowed each track go into a state fund to further the breeding industry
