I PRINCE K. GALLOPS FAST Works Half in 49% at Churchill Downs — Donges in Fine Fettle — Cartoonist Sent a Mile. LOUISVILLE. Ky.. April 3.— Prince K. set tongues awagging at Churchill Downs this morning when in company with Commander McMeekin he galloped a half mile in 49*£, the fastest move shown by any of the Derby candidates quartered here this spring. The best part of Prince K.s work was that he moved faster in the second quarter than he did in the first and the first quarter was caught in 25*5. Donges and Spin Ball worked together a creditable half in 51 *s and galloped out the three-quarters in 1:21%. Donges also was in fine fettle and took to the sloppy going as if he relished it. The Madden horses were given useful work. The two-year-olds in this string look particularly good. The Madden Derby candidates were worked in pairs. Dozer and Flint-stone were not hurried, but galloped out the mile in 1 :56. Mac Lir and Sandy Hatch went much faster. The dockers caught this pa.r in 1 :51 for the mile. Cartoonist and Hyperion, the "Bud" Fishei Derby colts, were given useful work over at Douglas Park. The two galloped a mile together in 1 :51, the half in 56 and the three-quarters in 1 :23. Royal II. and Colonel Vennie. which are in the custody of Rome Respess. who owns a half interest in them. It is said that both Respess and Livingston hold these two English-bred stallions in high esteem. Both showed that they are destined to make a name in the stud from the success of their first crop.
