J. A. COBURN RETURNS EAST NEW YORK. N. Y., April 3.— J. A. Co-burn, who recently returned from San Francisco, where he spent the winter, reports that work on the Tanforan plant is progressing rapidly and that when completed it will be one of the finest in the country. According to Mr. Coburn the steel for the grandstand and clubhouse has already arrived and the structures are expected to be completed before the close of the summer. The inaugural meeting will begin November 3. Mr. Coburn shipped his small stable of thoroughbreds from the Schutts farm to Jamaica early in March and placed them in the care of J. Edwards, trainer of ±1. Wat-ersons stable. He will go to Maryland this week and intends to make a few additions to his stable, which now comprises the four-year-old chestnut gelding Excelsis. by Cltimus — Melissa, by Star Shoot, and the three-year-old brown colt Recommendation, by Athel-ing II. — Compose, by Honeywood.
