Kelleys Skeezix. by Sweep — Margaret T.. by Sem-pronius, was the star f the Derby brigade to show a good gallop at Churchill Downs this morning. In company with the crack four-year-old Chatterton he galloped a mile in creditable time. Chatterton only attended the Derby colt for the first half a mile, when his rider pulled him up. Skeezix was caught the first quarter in 25-.-.. half in ~ 2, three quarters in 1 :18 and the mile in 1 :4."" -.:.. The son of Sweep was under restraint all the way and performed as if trainer Van Meter had him well along toward racing condition. He had the stable contract jockey. J. B. Kennedy in the saddle. When Kennedy dismounted he said that Skeezix was ready to do much better, but the colt having just landed here a week ago from California Ah-. Van Meter told him not to rush him. W. L. Martins Derby colt Valador. Johnny Callahan up. was another to show a go d work. With a pacemaker the Shirt Grass colt showed an even race for the entire mile, doing the first quarter in 2s. half in S4%, three-quarters in 1 :2l and mile in 1 A":.. Vanishing Boy. from Body Marshalls stable, was given a slow mile by trainer Hemes McKinney. He was timed in 1 £0%. Most of the morning was taken up by trainers at both Churchill Downs and Douglas Park in educating their two-year-olds at the barrier. The youngsters were taken to the start ins; gate in sets of twenty-five at a time. There were but few of the untried racers which showed any aversion to the harrier and the School furnished many of the trainers an opportunity to study the traits of their baby charges. This was a day of rest for the most prominent of the Derby candidates quartered at the Louisville tracks. Donges will be given another stiff workout tomorrow as will Bo McMillan. Cartoonist and several others. Mrs. w. v. Thraves. who has the old handicap favorite Mints II. in training, has ordered eleven stalls from superintendent Young for the Churchill Downs meeting. B. F. Simms anil B. G. Anderson were visitors at the Downs Sunday. Mr. Anderson came down to see his Derby colt Actuary perform in his work. J. J. Quintan has arrived here from Tijuana with one horse. De Land. J. S. "Slim" Ownbey is training eleven horses at Churchill Downs, the property of J. H. Louchheim. Philadelphia. Pa. The stable includes Peggy C a frre-y ear-olds ; Jim Ownbey, a four-year-olds; Blue Stone, Lord Granite. Kitty Williams. Hoi Coal, Grainiest. Prancing Prince and Carl .. Biown. three-year-olds, and Isman, b. -. by Granite — Wanda Pitser, and Keystone state, b. c. by Granite -Watch Your Stitch, two-year-olds.
