PROPOSED RACING MEASURE Beneficial Features of Bill Endorsed by Chicago Washington Park Club. In an analysis of the proposed racing law for Illinois. . nd orsed by the Chicago Washington Park Club, attention is called to some of its beneficial features. At present the state aids the livestock interests by appropriating annually a sum of money which is added to the prizes given j for livestock by county and agricultural fair organisations, in 1922 the budget Called to supply sufficient funds to ni.ct this appropriation, and as a consequence the state is in debt to the fairs 0,000. It is conservatively estimated that the passage of the projMistd racing bill will add an annual sum reaching well over a million dollars .oi o.u0 to the appropriation for livestock prizes irt conjunction with our fairs. This fund will give Illinois an outstanding position among the states of the Union in reference to the status of its blooded stock I int-resls. It will encourage the breeding and j exhibition of blooded cattle, horses, swim- and sheep, and offer ■ financial incentive to fit for exhibition many animals whose breeders or owners at present feel as if they cannot afford the expense involved. This feature will be particularly encouraging to those who exhibit in a minor way ;;nd have heretofore been greatly handicapped by the small cash prizes that the lesa prominent and prosperous fairs offered. The majority of our fairs are in financial Stress and this great sum annually added to the present appropriation, and pro-rated as it will be under the law now in force, will prove a boon to them.
