NAME OF ZEV EXPLAINED Sinclair Named Colt in Honor of Col. J. W. Zeverly, an Oil Operator. MUSKOGEE, Okla., Nov. 2. CoL J. W. Zeverly, for years has been -widely known throughout the southwest as an oil operator and railroad promoter. Today the colonel boasts a distinction which pales his other accomplishments into obscurity. It became known that Zev, the famous race horse, the leading American thoroughbred money-earner, and the champion three-year-old of the year, was named after CoL Zeverly. The colonel and Harry P Sinclair, owner of Zev, are close friends. When Sinclair decided to give a name to the son of The Finn, he honored his friend by naming the future champion, Zev.
