UNRULY WHISKAWAY Again Disappoints a Host of Admirers at Latonia. . 1 Not Even the Resourceful Sande Is Able to Make Him Run Ten-Lec the Winner. IjATONIA, Ky., Nov. 2. The inconsistent Whiskaway, -which has figured extensively since his turf advent on the turf with his good and bad performances, again came into .the limelight at Latonia this afternoon when he sulked and refused to extend himself despite the strenuous efforts of Sande, who wa3 making his first riding appearance here in some time. His mission in these parts was not to ride "Whiskaway. He is here to pilot Zev in that crack colts duel with My Own, which will determine the championship between these much discussed three-year-olds. On the strength of his sparkling winning race in his last essay, and the presence of the champion rider in the saddle, "Whiskaway was supported with, rare confidence, but it was a chagrined aggregation of supporters when the horse, immediately after the start, began pinning his ears back and "digging" his toes in the ground despite Sandes application of the whip and persuasive measures with hands and heel. "Whiskaway would not extend himself and no amount of persuasion would make him. Meantime Best Pal had moved into a good lead, with Ten-Lec fol-- lowing and Barracuda, a stable companion to Best Pal, in third place and Whiskaway slightly before Tip Toe Inn, the only other starter. There was no change in the position until just before the field reached the stretch, where Pool called on Ten-Lec and that filly shot into a good lead to never relinquish it thereafter, winning with much in reserve from Best Pal and Barracuda third. The mile in 1 :3S reflected the good work that the huge force of track men with their implements had accomplished. - The advance guard to witness the Latonia Championship swelled the regular attendance here considerably. SWEETHEABT FAILS AGAIN". Good racing was on tap, though favorites were in eclipse frequently, a disappointment equaling that of Whiskaway came in Cue race preceding when Sweetheart and Alice Blue Gown were beaten soundly by Crayon and Oui Oui. Crayon, the winner, was an extreme outsider and surprised by moving into a good lead at once and holding on gamely, stood off repeated challenges and won under restraint from Oui Oui, with Alice Blue Gown in th.ird place. Sweethearts lack of speed and her subsequent elimination in. the stretch indicates that she has gone back, in form and will probably be an absentee from further racing this year. The good band of two-year-olds that met in the sixth race also was responsible for disappointment when Cloister, a well-backed favorite gave away to Calvin. Cloister was possibly best, but he had a rough journey and was cut off in the last sixteenth when the winner swerved in front of him. LEFT AT THE POST. Easter Bells forgot to quit and held on long enough to lead home the other starters. Lugs and John Q. Kelly were the favored ones here, but Lugs ceased to figure extensively after the first half mile and John Q. Kelly never was in the running as a result of being practically left at the post. The opening dashes brought some ordinary ones, the limit number of starters going to the barrier in each race. Muldraugh carrying J. N. Camdens colors proved best of the twelve maidens that opened proceedings and was followed home by London Smoke and La Planche de Briante. British Liner made a runaway of the second race and had his opponents spreadeagled before going half a mile. The rest of the way was easy for he won commandingly, with Ben Valet in second place and Neddam taking third place. The start in this was bad with Good Night and Miss Mazie having the worst of it.
