CALIFORNIA RACING TODAY Crowd of 10,000 or More Expected to See Revival of Sport. " Beautiful Tanforan Park Ready for ETCntful Meeting Splendid Opening Program Arranged. SAN FRANCISCO, Cal., Nov. 2. Everything is in readiness for the return of the; thoroughbred horse to California. Indications are that over 10,000 people will be at the beautiful Tanforan race course tomorrow, Saturday, November 3, for the opening. San Francisco is again talking "boss" and it promises to be a gala occasion. The Pacific Coast Jockey Club has taken the lead to bring back the horse into its own and plans many improvements over the old state of affairs. Hacing is to be conducted as a sport and the encouragement received from all sides is an indication of success. With such prominent business men and sportsmen as A. B. Spreckels, Rudolph Spreckels, Herbert Fleishhacker, Howard Spreckels, Thomas Fortune Ryan, Frank J. Kelley, A. K. Macomber and C. K. G. Billings behind the Jockey Club, assurance can be given that the sport will be conducted on a high plane. Through the efforts and money of these men and their associates, one of the finest monuments to the thoroughbred and the sport of racing has been erected in the new Tanforan race course. It is a place of beauty, with every appointment and convenience of a modern race, track. First time vistiors are assured of a big surprise when they enter the gates of Tanforan and many will be their expressions of delisht and wonder. Racing secretary Robert F. . Leighton has provided an appropriate program for the initial days sport, with the Inaugural Handicap ,000 added at one mile and a sixteenth as the principal attraction. A field of eleven has been named to contest in this outstanding feature, such good ones as Chatterton, Abadane, All Over, Tailor Maid, Skeezix and Prince Tii Tii being among the probable starters. Rose ; starter, Harry Mor-rissey ; racing secretary, R. F. Leighton ; clerk of the scales, J. II. Rothert; paddock judge, J. W. Hayman; patrol judges, J. W. Hayman and R. McGibben; timers, G. W. S. ; track superintendent, James McDonnell. A. B. Sprcckels and J. W. Marchbank havo a ,500 wager as to the best two-year-old in their respective stables. Marchbank may pick Snooksie Bradley, while the Spreckela candidate will likely be selected from Run-clar, Runchief and Runpour. G. W. Wingfield, the Reno, Nevada breeder, was a recent visitor and expects to be on band for the opening days sport C. A.
