THOROUGHBRED BIRTHDAY Today is the "official birthday" of all race horses. On January 1 of each year the age of every thoroughbred is advanced one year, so the yearlings of 1!23 are now two-year-olds, while Sarazen, Wise Counsellor, ,St. James and the remainder of last years two-year-olds are the three-year-olds of 1021 and therefore prospective Derby candidates, a . popular topic of conversation in turf circles ; during the winter months.
