VERSATILE SLIPPERY ELM NEW ORLEANS. La.. Jan. 3. J. W. Burtt-schell, trainer of the once shifty horse Slippery Elm, tried something new with that horse during the forenoon, first working him three-eighths in a fraction under 40 seconds and then bringing him back to gallop a mile in 1:53.
