Biggest Winners of 1923 The final figures for the year 19i are now complete and they show that eight owners won over 00,000 each during the most successful year in the history of the American turf. The wonderful success of the Rancccas Stable with its worlds record winnings cf S43S.S40 is familiar to the majority of those interested in racing. There was a glorious struggle for second honors between the Greenlrce Stable and J. S. Cosden, the former emerging victorious by a small margin, the Grecntree Stables total reading 0D,G52 to the ?197,S32 to the credit of Mr. Cosden. Secure in fourth place is Commander J. K. L. Ross, the Canadian turfman, whose large and powerful stable gathered from the sports of the year the large sum of S5,1S5. Next on the list comes IT. P. Whitney, who did not meet the same measure of success that was his in the two preceding years. However, despite many disappointments, the Whitney horses collectively accounted for GS,443, to which the fine horse Bunting wa the largest contributor. The possession of one of the best two-year-olds of 1923 in St. James, the largest money-winning horse of that age for the year, is responsible for G. D. Wideners exalted position on the list of the big winners. The Idle Hour Stock Farm Stable of E. R. Bradley is the first of the western establishments to figure on the winning list, and this honor is due chiefly to the success of Beau Butler in the rich Pimlico Futurity. Next comes the far western turfman C. B. Irwin with the remarkable record of 147 races won and 5101,031 in stable earnings without capturing any cf the real valuable stake races of the year. Each of the thirty leaders of the year won in excess of 0,000, their complete records being as follows: Won in Leading Winner Won in Leading Winner 1922.
