RAIN VISITS BOWIE1 ■ ♦ But Does Not Prevent Golden Billows From Repeating. ♦ Scores Second Success of Meeting After Sparkling Contest With Eager. ♦ — • BOWIE. Md., April 7. — Bowie is the one track »n the whole circuit where the trick is to back horses to repeat. In other words the horse that runs well in the peculiar go- j ing is almost sure to come back. And it still holds good for Golden Billows, won the best race of the Monday offering of the i Southern Maryland Association, but unfortunately there was a previous winner in the same held. This one was Richard Pend- ! ings Kager and naturally it made the prob- ! lem just a bit more difficult. But the repu- ! tation of Bowie was sustained when Golden j Billows was first and Imager was second. Of course, one of the previous winners had to win. They could not both win and it was Golden Billows that made it a double for the meeting instead of the Pending campaigner. There was a break in the weather and a cold rain fell all afternoon, but this did not prevent a big crowd being on hand and the j sport was excellent all through the day. Jn the Golden Billows-Kager race, there | were five starters and, from a good start, I Golden Billows raced to the front. It was hut the mile and seventy yeards distance and the filly had the inside position. Milner took hold of the Tansor filly when she had t:iken her position and she was still showing the way down the back stretch with Kager close after her. TWO-HORSE RACE. At the half mile ground. Eager moved up and on the far turn he went to the filly, but Milner continued to sit still and Golden Billows did not lose her inside position. She was right with Kager to the stretch and after swinging for home, she went to the Pending colt and had no trouble putting him away to win going away by a length and a half. Rock Bottom was the one to save j third, but it really was a two-horse race. The opening race was a half mile dash for I two-year-olds of the selling plater variety and it resulted in another New Orleans victory when Bill Winfrey was rather a handy winner from J. S. Cosdens Foyle with Per-ma henee Belle, a filly that raced in Cuba, saving third. It was Foyle that cut out the pace, but in the strcti h she began to weaken and Wfeoa the inexperienced Shanks went to the I v. hip her last chance was gone. Bill Winfrey raced by her handily in the last eighth to be winner by a couple of lengths while The Cosden filly was a greater distance before the daughter of Troutbeck. Kitty French was a disappointment in this race. She had shown enough in a previous ! start to inspire support today, but she was j sadly lacking in speed and was at no time ; a contender. The Nevada Stock Farm accounted for | its second purse of the meeting when Go | Fein graduated from the maiden ranks with ease from a band of thirteen starters. Altis-simo raced to second place while Just was third. The winner was ridden by jockey F. lee and at no stage of the contest left the ultimate result in doubt. Bee allowed him to race away into a long lead which he , oaadd have increased had he desired. The battle for the second portion of the purse resulted in a spirited battle when Altissimo ; just managed to nose out Just. The winner was a warm favorite. llainy weather forced the crowd to vacate the lawn and seek sheltered portions of the stands. ANTIQUITY Di A DRIVE. Antiquity racing for W. M. Sheedy was winner of the third race in a drive from Huckleberry Finn, while Barleycorn was ihird. The winner was ridden by Jockey Howard and dominated the running from the start. There was no time lost at the ! arrier and the field left in good alignment. | Howard went to the front with Antiquity, but w;us quickly joined by Felicitous but the latter quit badly and dropped back. Huckleberry Finn in the meantime improved his position on the inside. At the stretch turn Howard saved ground, while Huckleberry Finn came to the outside. In a severe drive Antiquity outlasted the Foreman starter. Barleycorn finish, d well to take the short end of the purse. Miles S. unseated his rider at the far turn but D. Randall escaped it jury. Fifty-Fifty, ridden by jockey J. Wallace, was returned the winner of the fourth race at seven -eighths. 1 . L. Richards Warning was the one to finish second while Charles J Craigmile was third. Wallace who rode the winner saved ground at the stretch turn and had but little trouble in disposing of his opposition at the end. Warning was a prominent factor from the break, while Charles J Craigmile closed some ground to be third by a narrow margin.
