PIMUCOS "BABY" STAKES Juvenile and Pimlico Nursery Two-Year-Old Events for Spring Meeting BALTIMORK. Md., April 7— The principal two-year-old races at the Pimlico spring meeting. May 1 to 13, are the Juvenile and the Pimlico Nursery, with $."..000 added to each, both at four and a half furlongs. The Juvenile closes on Tuesday, April S. | the Pimlico closed last September, with 4:S~ entries in T.S interests, and it is likely that, the best of these will take part in both lea- j tures, with the Nursery staged on May 2. j and the Juvenile on Tuesday, May 13, the last day of the meeting. The Nursery is the older fixture, dating to 1909, when Tom Melton landed the prize for Samuel Ross. la 1910 a Washington sportsman again won the race. C. C. Smith- j son being the lucky owner, and Stinger his color bearer. August Belmont, chairman of the Jockey Club, was the winner two years in succession in 1911 and 1912, with the home-bred Overman and Rockview. a feat duplicated by Ral Parr in 1913 and 1914 with Kxecutor and The Masquerader, the latter a more than useful colt. In 1915 the Quincy Stable won with Ting-a-Ling. and Samuel Ross in 1916 with Crank.1 then came J. P. Jones Virginia Yell in 1917 ; H. P. Whitneys Blue Laddie in 191S ; W. M. Jeffords Kinnoul in 1919; W. J. Salmons Careful in 1920: J. S. Cosdens Lord Haiti-j more in 1921: Quiaey Stables Frank G. in 1932, and J. S. Cosdens Yankee Princess in 1333. | From this list it will be seen that the qual-j ity in the Nursery has been high, and there] is no reason to doubt it will be maintained in the coming renewal in May. The spring Juvenile was first run in 1917. Kd McBrides Charlie Leydecker furnishing ■ surprise when he was first past the post. In 1913 W. A. Gambles Madam Byng won handily, in 1919 J. H. Shreeves filly Kalli-polis won. and W. J. Salmons Flying Careful in 1920. J. S. Cosdens high-priced Lord Baltimore won in 1921, J. K. Griffiths St. Valentine in] lJ22, and last year Xalapa Farms June Flower showed a lean pair of heels to her competitors, including Kings Ransom Second, Relentless third, and Sunny Sal, Sunayr, | Mender. Colonel West, Flying Fur and Iar-j thema la the field. In the history of the Nursery and Juvenile only two have won both events, W. J. Sal-| moils Careful in 1920 and J. S. Cosdens | Lord Baltimore in 1921, both of which more j than fulfilled their early promise.
