LEXINGTON PROGRAM ♦ Seventy Races, Including Four Stakes, for Spring Meeting. ♦ ■ Ashland Oaks Feature of Opening Day, April 26 — Purses Range From 00 to ,200 Added. ♦ — ■ LEXINGTON. Ky.. April 9.— The program book for the Kentucky Associations spring meeting, which is to open April 26 and close May 7. was issued today. The book was written by judge William H. Shelley, racing secretary, and is in his usual good style. Seventy races are to he decided. There are four stakes, the Ashland Oaks for three-year-old fillies at a mile, $,000 added, will he run on the opening day; the Tobacco Stakes, for two-year-olds at four and a half furlongs. $::,000 added, will be the feature for May 1; the Camden Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, at a mile and an eighth, J3.000 added, will he decided on May 3, and the Blue Grass Stakes, for three-year-olds, at a mile and an eighth, will be the feature nf the closing day. It will he in the nature of a trial fur the Kentucky Derby, which is to be inn May 17 at Churchill Downs. The purse races have from to ,200 added. Thomas . Bradley, vice-president and general MMgcr of the Kentucky Association, has returned from Hot Springs, where he spent several weeks in the quest of health, and was at his desk today. The heavy rain of last night left the track muddy this morning, but it was of great benefit to the course, which had become quite hard. Sufficient has been shown in the work of the hcrses tli.it were wintered here to indicate that they would be ready for the racing when the meeting opens. Even though it may be contends d in some quarters that they are not as forward in their preparation as in some previous years. Colonel and Mrs. E. R. Rradley arrived last night from Palm Beach and will be at Idle Hour Farm for some time. Colonel W. E. Applegate. accompanied by W. E. Walsh, arrived this morning from Covington. II. Neusteter. greatly improved in health, arrived la t night from New Orleans and today was gratified in seeing the three two--ar-old.s that T. L. Pierce broke and wintered for him. J. I!. Cloher has been called to Chicago on account of the death of Mrs. Cloher*s mother. «
