LOUISVILLE TRACKS HEAVY Derby Hopes Have Chance to Show Mud Running Ability — Bourbon Boy Likes Going. LOUISVILLE, Ky.. April ».— Heavy rains Tuesday night rendered both local tracks quite muddy and had the effect of slowing up training operations. However, there was no letup in the preparation of the Kentucky Derby candidates, for they were all given some kind of work. A number of the aspirants were galloped through the mud at a good pace and showed that they were at home in the going. Bourbon Boy, the eolt that Pete Coyne is handling for Arthur Hoard, the Louisville sportsman, fully demonstrated his mud running ability when he ran three-quarters in 1:16% and galloped out the seven-eighths in 1 Ml~i. He went the half in 50% and the five-eighths in EOGrf,. This was the best work of the morning at Churchill Downs. King Gorin II., another of Pete Coynes Derby charges, also worked three-cpiarters, but in much slower time than his stable companion. C. Pruce Heads Altawood also disported himself with credit in the mud by going three-quarters in 1:19%. He was accompanied in his work by Alice Blue Gown and Flowers of I.ove, his regular work mates, and outran them all the way. Plack Gold also showed up well when be galloped the three-quarters in 1:20. Wise Counsellor and Worthmore were jogged around the shed, as their trainer did not care to gallop them in the mud. The best work, aside from that of the Derby candidates, was witnessed when It. Hendersons Actuary was sent three-quarters in 1:17. In Memoriam went a similar . distance in 1:21% without much effort. Rob | vent three-quarters in 1:20 and Great Jaz was sent five-eighths in 1:13. | Kay Spence. trainer for the Audley Farm Stable, who has been sojourning at Hot Springs. Ark., for his health, returned to j Louisville Wednesday morning in improved j condition, and immediately assumed charge | of the stable that during his absence was in the care of F. A. Gailor. Spence found the horses in good condition and their train-j ing well advanced.
