HAYWARD followed the early pacemaker closely and, coming through on the inside on -the stretch turn, took the lead and swerved to the inner rail, but outstayed ZEEDRUGGE through tho final sixteenth. ZEEBRUGGE raced forwardly all the way and, finishing resolutely, was wearing tho winner down. MADDENSTOWN set a fast pace in the going, but tired badly when challenged. SENOR began slowly and finished fast after overcoming interference at the eighth post. BROWNIE closed up some ground. HARLAN quit after going a half mile. REPLY set a good pace from the start and, sprinting into a long lead, withstood a challenge from SWINGALONG and held DRY MOON safe through the final eighth. DRY MOON moved up resolutely on the stretch turn and came with a rush through the final eighth. SWINGALONG broke well and was raced in closest pursuit of the leader to the last eighth, but failed badly when called on. H. T. Waters raced gamely, but was unable to keep up. SUN PAL was outrun and had no mishaps.
