AKRONS PURSE OFFERING Approximately 0,000 to Be Distributed During Sixteen-Day Fall Meeting. AKRON, Ohio, Sept 19. A total slightly in excess of 0,000 will be distributed among the horsemen during the sixteen-day fall race meeting of the Akron Racing Association at Northampton Park, which is scheduled to open next Wednesday, acocrding to the program book just issued. This liberal offering of purses, which is the largest that has ever been offered by the local association since its inception last fall, amounts to a daily average of ,400, which can be more readily appreciated when compared to the average at the inaugural meeting last fall which amounted to ,G00 daily. At the two previous meetings held during the current year, in the months of May and August, a total of 22,000 was distributed, and with the 0,000 offered this fall, the total distribution will approximate in the neighborhood of 92,000 at Northampton for 1924. As a result of the popularity of the local three-quarter mile course as well as the liberal offering of purses, horse owners located in various parts of the country are taking an unusual interest in the forthcoming meeting at Northampton, judging from reservations received to date from Latonia, Omaha, Winnipeg, Montreal, Thorncliffe, Long Branch, Marlboro and Niagara Falls. In addition to over one houndred and fifty horses already on the grounds, reservations have been received for over two hundred head which will move over to Northampton following the conclusion of the meeting which will close at Maple Heights Saturday. Officials for the meeting will be as follows : Andrew G. Leonard, presiding steward ; Peter E. Callen, presiding judge ; Sidney S. Bender, associate judge ; William Harris, starter; Anthony Smith, paddock judge; Herbert J. Kohl, clerk of the scales, and Sidney S. Bender, secretary.
