Local racegoers will be privileged to see Gallaher Bros, superlative three-year-old Chilhowee when that colt makes his first start cf the local autumn session Saturday afternoon in the ?5,000 added Falls City Handicap, at one mile and an eighth. The occasion will mark Chilhowees first public appearance at Churchill Downs since he finished fourth in the Grainger Handicap at the spring meeting. Prior to that race be had finished second in the Kentucky Derby and had scored in the Clark Handicap. During the colts absence from the local track he has made notable turf history. Tomorrows stake, which is the first race of a stellar nature to be offered at the meeting, Chilhowee is asked to shoulder 130 pounds and concede weight not only to those of his own age but also to more mature horses. In the light of the colts recent sparkling races the task assigned him Saturday afternoon is not too onerous and with a good ride he ought to lead his opponents home over the one mile and an eighth route. And it is not outside the realm of possibility that Chilhowee may excel Dr. Clarks track record of 1:49 for the distance. FALLS CITY HANDICAP FIELD P.P. Horse. Wt. Owner. Jockey. Sarazen, winner of the International Special No. 3, is top weight in the handicap and will be favorite. The gelded son of High Time Rush Box will carry 126 pounds. George Babin will don the silks of Mrs. W. IC Vanderbilts Fair Stable to ride the speedy chestnut. Sarazen has not raced since his victory ever Epinard in the last of the International contests at Latonia two weeks ago, but has been kept on edge here by Max Hirsch. A mile and an eighth Thursday ever the heavily cushioned Laurel track in 1:52 says he is fit. The fractions were as follows: :23, :34, :46, 1:00, 1:12, 1:25 and 1:39. Burtons chestnut son of Mentor Rustle made many supporters for the Chicago owners colors by his triumph last Saturday in the Laurel Stakes. That race was only at a mile, but Steve ODcnnell made all the pace with Wise Councellor and had plenty in reserve at the end. ODonnell will be here tomorrow to pilot the winner of -the International Special No. 1 against Sarazen and the others. Big Blaze, which finished between Wise Counsellor and Sun Flag in the Laurel Stakes, is among the seven named overnight for the Maryland. He was running strongly at the end of that race and will be favored by many to triumph tomorrow because of the longer distance. Aga Khan, one of the disappointments of the Latonia Championship Stakes, in which Chilhowee set a worlds record for a mile and three-quarters, will sport the colors for the first time since that race of a week ago. This fast son of Omar Khayyam will carry the silks of the Belair Stud, his breeder. On New York form he has a chance with his 108 pounds. PROBABLE STARTERS IN MARYLAND HANDICAP PP. Horse. Wt Owner.
