ENERGYS SPEED WINS Proves Best in Churchill Downs Main Attraction. 1 Beats The Runt and Worthinore After Fine Performance Pegasus by a Half Length. LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. C The Parkview Stables recently acquired Energy made good at the first asking. when he won in the feature race carded for this afternoon at Churchill Downs. Pressing him closely in second place came The Runt, favored by light weight with Worthmore a first time starter in these parts, landing in third place. Energy was an outstanding favorite and his supporters were somewhat chagrined when he was away from the barrier faulty, but he recovered in jig time and his high order of speed carried him into the lead in the first eighth. Thereafter he held command to the finish, but at times it looked shaky for him. The Runt continued pressing him hard all during the stretch and Energys jockey had to resort to the whip to keep him in advance. He won by half a length. Worthmore raced in close proximity to the leader for the first quarter, but thereafter gave way to The Runt, but he was good enough to hold on to third place. Lathrop, which won in a preceding start, displayed a dull performance and was in last place for most of the way. SPIRITED RACING RULES. Spirited racing was again the rule this afternoon and it was witnessed by another large attendance, in spite of threatening weather. Surprises again came during the afternoon. The two-year-old dashes furnishing the main upsets, with the sixth, in which some of the better grade juveniles took part, bringing the outstanding upset .by the victory of Bignonia, which beat the big favorite. Little Visitor. Bignonia was coupled with Buttress as the R, A. Fairbairn entry, and she performed in her best style, being a close attendant on Little Visitor and Lass oMine from the start and when the leaders began tiring she came on to win by a neck. Little Visitor and Lass oMine did not benefit by the post delay that ensued as a result of both their bad post behavior and both were considerably used by the exhaustive effort they made to dispose of each other in the early stages. Rural Route and Water Flag were counted to give good accounts oE themselves in this race, but both figured poorly. The Audley Farm Stables Pegasus continues to race consistently and accounted for the high-priced mile claiming race, in which he was the favored one. His success at that might have been a lucky one, for had Hoag-Iand kept Valley Light nearer to the inner rail he might have been the victor. He finished in third place, Pretty Politician beating him out by inches for second place. Valley Light displayed a high order of speed today under a hustling ride, unlike his preceding effort when McDermott rode him listlessly. CLOISTER NARROWLY. The closing race furnished a spirited finish, with Cloister the winner by the smallest kind of a margin over the suddenly improved Lexington Maid, which, coming with a rush, just missed the victory. Oo La La beat Malt for third place. The latter was claimed for ,700 by J. T. West. Cloister was kept well up during the early stages and moved into the lead at the stretch turn, but it took energetic riding to make him last long enough. Malt was kept in last place far out of it for over three-quarters, but he came steadily thereafter and closed an immense gap. The incompetent Moore could not handle Bench Manager and he was never a serious contender. The two-year-olds, racing a mile, were of the common variety and little surprise was occasioned when Boo Boo, one of the outsiders, made a runaway race of it and won with ridiculous ease from another neglected one, Sincere, with Great Rock, grouped with several others in the field, finishing in third place. Star Sweeper, recently claimed by B. J. Brannon, was the favored one in the raco but he was away poorly and had a rough journey, eliminating him seriously as . a factor. The start favored Boo Boo and she made good use of the advantage she secured, for she rushed into the lead and held sway . for the entire way. Little Jimmie, Bad Luck, Warfare and Captain Donan, all extensively backed, were never serious factors in the running. Down Town, which has performed impressively on several occasions, raced in his 1 best form in the second race and it was a handy victory that he scored over Rocky, with Fire On just lasting for third place. .Down Town was an extensively backed one and justified the confidence for he moved into a good lead at once and never gave serious concern to his backers. Spanjior, an expected strong contender, was never formidable here. Continued on twelfth page. ENERGYS SPEED WINS Continued from first page. The opening race found Sequel a victress. She drew away from Uncle Bert and Body Guard in the stretch after having kept the pair close company for most of the way. Deadlock, a first time starter in a long time, was a supposedly good thing here, but Hay got him away poorly and kept him far out of it until reaching the stretch, where he-came with a tremendcus rush. He came back to the stand slightly lame,- as did Body Guard which had shown good early speed. Jockey J. Majestic, who has been riding on the Ohio tracks, was an arrival Thursday morning.
