BOWIE, Md., Nov. 22. Donaghee. that races for James W. Bean, of Washington, demonstrated without doubt that he is supreme over the treacherous footing of the Prince Georges county course, when he was an easy winner of the Gadsden D. Bryan Memorial Handicap, which was Hie outstanding attraction offered this afternoon. Prin-" cess Doreen, which finished second to tho winner in her previous race, carried the Audley Farm colors to the same position again today, while Miss Whisk was third. The value of the stake was ,730 to the winner. There was considerable delay at the starting post, the unwieldy field kept milling about and when the barrier arose there was much bumping. Volante, Shuffle, Along and Worthmore outran their opposition to tho first turn and were racing closely lapped, while the others were also closely bunched, ODonnell, astride Wise Counsellor, found himself in early difficulties and was penned down on the inner rail. When well settled on the rear stretch, there was considerable changing of positions. Volante, Shuffle Along and Worthmore felt the effects of setting tho pace through the mud and itAvas there that Bonnie Omar was sent to the front, but Donaghee, under stout restraint from jockey Sharpe, was chasing him. Reparation and Miss Whisk were Avell up. Miss Whisk had been rushed into contention from her slow beginning and the effort proved a costly one. Swinging for home Sharpe sent Donaghee to the front and he quickly bounded away to open up a gap. Princess Doreen, in the meantime, had improved her position and through the stretch closed with a rush to tako second place although she did not threaten the winner, which was well under restraint at the end. Miss Whisk, after being a forward factor, began to tire and just outlasted Spot Cash which came with a rush at the end. JOY SMOKE EASILY. E. F. Whitneys Joy Smoke was an easy winner of the Sunset Purse. Opperman finished second, while Lieutenant II. was third. I Joy Smoke went to the front at the start, was rated along under steady restraint, shook off Lieutenant II. when ready and at the ond won with speed in reserve. Opperman was kept close up during the early running and after saving ground entering the stretch finished strong, while Lieutenant II. after losing ground tired when called upon. Joy Smoke completed a double for jockey C. Lang. Mrs. C. C. Hall supplied the victor of the first race in Villager, a previous winner at Bowie, which came from behind to beat the twelve other starters. S. Ross was second, with Slate, while Rose Cloud was third. Villager, after a slow beginning, closed resolutely in the stretch and disposed of Slate in the final sixteenth. Slate, after outrunning the others to the first turn, was taken under restraint when Rose Cloud" dashed into a long lead. Rose Cloud showed the way until well into the stretch and-tired badly. Slate then assumed the lead but could not stand off the closing rush of tho winner. LADDIE DUCK SURPRISES. It was a representative field of two-year-olds that started in the Tip Top Handicap and the winner came from an unexpected quarter when Laddie Buck, racing fcr the Woodlawn Stable, Avas Avinner in a mild driva from Dangerous, with Danby third. There Avas no time lost at the start and Weiner had Laddie Buck into a long lead and he showed a pronounced liking for the muddy going. Danby went after him, Avhile Dangerous Avas slow to settle in his stride. Rounding the turn Laddie Buck continued to show tho Avay and Weiner Avas hustling him along in convincing style. Danby Avas still racing closest in pursuit, Avhile Dangerous had made up some ground. Laddie Buck hugged tho rail turning for home and Weiner kept him under pressure to staA-e off determined opposition. Dangerous closed fast and it Avas only in the closing strides that he headed Danby for second place. Faddist, after rac- . ing prominently in the early running, quit badly. E. J. Hollands superior mud runner, Bal-Contlnued on twelfth page. SCORES EASY TRIUMPH Continued from first page. lot Brush, was a clever winner of the Oriole Handicap. Batonnier was the one to finish second, while Leonard G. was third. From the start Ballot Brush and Leonard G. outran their opponents and quickly drew into a long lead. Batonnier was racing in third position, while Wampec had dropped back to a distant follower. Ballot Brush was under steady restraint and turning for homa C. Lang gave him his head and he quickly drew away. Leonard G. began to tire, after forcing the pace, and at the end succumbed to the closing rush of Batonnier. J. Bauers The Roll Call proved an easy winner of the sixth race and led home Mars-dale and Guelph to the finish. The winner was. ridden by Marinelli and quickly drew into the lead.
