I j 1 j l BIG INCREASE IN ENTRIES Nominations for Belmont Park Stakes Number 2,490, a Large Increase Over This Year. NEW YORK, ST. Y., Nov. 2C The Westchester Racing Association reports an increase of 214 in the number of entries received for the sixteen stakes which recently closed. A total of 2,490 entries were received as against 2,246 a year ago. These came from 145 individual nominators. A year ago the nominators numbered 120. As in former years, Hairy Payne Whitney is the largest nominator, with 252 entries from his Brookdale Stud. The next largest patron is the Rancocas Stud of Harry F. Sinclair with a total of 107. Following these New Jersey breeders, comes Major August Belmont with 104 entries from his celebrated Nursery Stud. Others with generous .offerings include G. A. Cochran, 93; P. T. Chinn, 88 ; W. R. Coe, 80 ; Greentree Stable, SG ; A- K. Macomber, 7.1 ; A. B. Hancock, 70 ; W. J. Salmon, 67; James Butler, 02 ; R. T. Wilson, and J. E. Madden, 52 each : Glen Riddle Farm, 50 ; Wm. Zeigler, Jr., 45 ; Belair Stud, 52; J. E. Widener, 44 ; Sanford Stud Farm and Nalapa Farm, each with 37 ; Oak Ridge Stable and Marshall Field, 36 each ; W. S. Kilmer, 35 ; Lee Rosenberg, 33 ; George D. Widener, 32 ; Dudley Farm, 30 ; Fred Johnson, 29, and J. S. Cosden, 27. Among the new names in the list of inators are Hamilton Farm, J. Woods Garth II., P. F. Joyce, Wm. C. Carnegie, Flamingo Farm, S. M. Newman, Fox Catcher Farm and G. C. Cudahy. Mr. Newman is the owner of- Chilhowee, the record-breaking son of Ballot recently purchased from Gallaher Brothers for the reported price of ?50,000. Perhaps the most gratifying feature of the entries is the increase recorded for the Belmont Stakes, which received 424 entries last year for the running" of 1926, while no fewer than 500 nominations have been forthcoming this year for the 1927 running of the great races, which is of 0,000 added money value.
