J. E. Wideners Record for 1924 Joseph E. Widener, member of the Jockey Club, and noted Philadelphia sportsman, Avho races a big stable in France as Avell as in this country, won ,9G5 during the American racing season of 3924. It was a stroke of good fortune on the part of Mr. Widener to purchase late in the fall the good three-year-old Altawood, probably the best long-distance racer since Exterminator was at his best. Altawocd only started twice in the "VVidener colors, but won both races, the Bowie Handicap and the Pimlico Cup, thereby adding 6,500 to the -stable earnings for the year. Mr. -Wideners old champion and favorite jumper, Duettiste, despite his twelve years, contributed C,573, while Houdini, with ?9,G30, was another good Av.inner for the stable.
