RANCOCASFINERECORD Wins ,170,415 in Four Years of Racing on American Turf Fails to Equal James R. Keenes Feat of Four Consecutive Years of Leadership, But Earns Greater Amount of Money When H. P. Whitney displaced the Bancocas Stable from the position of leading money winner of the year the master of Brookdale Stud not only deprived the Sinclair-Hildrcth confederacy of that coveted honor on the American turf but also prevented that successful establishment from duplicating the record of the late James It. Keene, whose racing stable headed the list for ipur years in succession. The wonderful collection of horses that carried the "colors of James R. Keene ruled supreme in 1905-0G-07 and 190S. In 1903 the Keene winnings amounted to 2S,724, in 1900, 55,519; in 1907, 97,342, and in 190S. S2,342. The winnings of the Keene horses in 1907, a total of 97,342, established a worlds record for earnings in one year and remained the iccord until 1923, when the Rancocas Stable far surpassed it with the stupendous winnings of 3S,S49, made possible chiefly by the marvelous success of Zev. The record of the J. R. Keene stable during the four years of its supremacy on the American turf follows: Tear. " 1st. 2nd. 3rd. Amount. 1905 2S 22 . 3G 2S,724 190G 34 42 3G 155,519 1907 70 ! 4G 23 - 397,342 190S 49 30 34 2S2.075 Totals 1S1 140 129 ,0G3,GG0 The Rancocas Stable, owned by Harry Sinclair and trained by S. C. Hildreth, first appeared on the American turf in 1921 and performed the unusual feat of winning the leadership in the first year of its existence. With Grey Lag, Mad Hatter, Kai-Sang, Thunderclap, Knobbie, Budana, Little Chief and a host of others the Rancocas Stable won during 1921 a total of seventy-seven races and 03,500. In 1922 the Rancocas Stable, with earnings of 39,503, repeated its success of the preceding year, though its total of winnings was not as great as in 1921. Some of the difference is accounted for in the fact that Grey Lags infirm legs prevented him from filling many of his engagements. However, the disablement of Grey Lag left it to Mad Hatter to figure as the chief money winner of the stable. He won 4,250, while Kai-Sang accounted for ?27,S47 and the magnificent cripple. Grey Lag, contributed 0,937. With the future star, Zev, Little Chief, Edict, Knobbie and others aiding materially the Rancocas Stable was able to win enough to again give it priority over that of Harry Payne Whitney, which had also finished second in 1921. Continued on twelfth p:ige. RANCOCASFINERECORD . Continued from first page. It Avas in 1923 that Rancocas achieved its greatest fame. Not only did that powerful racing establishment head the list of American Avinners for the third year in succession, but it accumulated a total in money won far surpassing all previous records. In 1907 the J. Fv. Keene horses amassed a total of 97,342, the greatest sum ever won in a single year anywhere. That record stood until 3923, when the Rancocas Stable exceeded it with winnings of 3S,S49, a sum unheard cf in racing: in this or any other country. More than half or the Rancocas total was won by the champion three year-old, Zev, which also surpassetLi-11 money -winning records foMjorses, with the exception cf the French Ksar. In pilinSgfrF the big record of the RancocaYpStable in 1923 Zev had some able assistance from Grey lSgf Little Chief, Bracadale, Stanwix and others. There was every indication during 3924 that the Rancocas Stable would equal J. R. Keenes record of four years of consecutive leadership. The victory of Candy Kid in the Breeders Futurity at the Lexington fall meeting, however, denied the Rancocas establishment that additional distinction and at the same time exalted his owner, IT. .P. AThitney. to the enviable position of leader for-this year. The Rancocas Stables record of three years of leadership follows: Year. " 1st. 2nd. 3rd. Amount. 3921 77 " G3 20 03,500 1922 GS 53 44 239,503 1923 74 02 39 43S.S49 Total 219 17S 103 41,S52 Though losing the leadership of 1921 the Rancocas Stables record for the ycar is in keeping with its glorious achieements narrated above. This, too, despite the fact that Zev, which won 72,00S in 1923, Avas only able to earn G,9GG. Mad Play was the big winner for Rancocas this year with 4,490. Bracadale accounted for 3,740, Mad Hatter ,S90 and the remainder of the formidale establishment aided in accumulating a total of 2S,5G3. It may be well to ncte here that the Rancocas Stable Avon a greater amount of money in four consecutiA-e years than did J. R. Keene, even though the latter was the leader four times in succession. The grand totals read, Rancocas, ,170,415; Keene, ?1,0G3,G60. Both glorious records. The following is the complete record of the Rancocas Stable for 1924: norse. Col.Sex.Age. Pedigree. 1st. 2d. 3d.
