VETERAN SPORTSMAN DEAD John Middleton, Veteran Breeder and Owner, Passes Away at Age of Eighty-Two. LOUISVILLE, Ky., Dec. 13. John Middle-ton, S2 years old, business man and sportsman, Thursday succumbed to injuries resulting from a fall he suffered six weeks ago. The deceased sportsman is survived by a wulcw and four sons, one of- whom is Charles G. Middleton, chairman of the Republican City and Executive Committee. Mr. Middleton was well known in turf affairs two decades ago. He Avas half owner of the Waldeck Stable, and associated with Karl Jungbluth, and also maintained a breeding establishment at Beards Station, near Anchorage. Among the horses of importance bred at the Waldeck Farm Avas The Picket, Avinner of the American Derby in 1903. The Picket was also winner of the Brooklyn Handicap as a four-year-old, and other important fixtures on the American turf. The deceased sportsman was associated with turf affairs for the past thirty years and upon the dissolution of the Waldeck Stable his horses were campaigned under the nom de course of the Pastime Stable with considerable success, Lawrence Jones being associated with the establishment in late years.
