CHILHOWEE TRAINS SLOWLY i Trainer Watts Plans to Give Newman Crack Plenty of Time to Reach Racing Condition. NEW ORLEANS. La., Dec. 21. The crack Chihowee, which is steadily undergoing a careful preparation at the Fair Grounds under the skillful handling of Dick Watts, has advanced sufficiently to gallop three-eighths at a fast pace but he will continue slowly in his training for some time. He had been turned out for more than a month before his purchase by his present owner and he has gained almost 100 pounds in weight since his arrival in New Orleans. "There is no intention on my part to hurry him along and I intend to give him ample time to get into his best form before I send him along fast," said trainer Watts. "He will be started frequently when he docs attain his top form and he is certain to be a starter in the New Orleans Handicap, unless some unforeseen accident happens." - Chilhowee does not indicate any further heel trouble and he goes about his training in willing fashion.
