BALTIMORE, Md., May 2.— The Pimlico Nursery for 2-year-old colts and fillies and the Green Spring Valley Steeplechase were offered as attractions by the Maryland Jockey Club this afternoon, and the running of these two stakes brought out a tremendous crowd to the Old Hill Top course, 25,000 persons being present. The Green Spring Valley Steeplechase has been run continuously since 1907 and its rolls of winners comprises some of the best jumpers that ever raced in America. Todays running brought a field of thirteen to the post and W. J. Salmon, the Metropolitan turfman, furnished the winner in Dunks Green, ridden by B. Hayns. Dunks Green won in easy fashion by four lengths. Dan IV. was second, a head in front of Sky Scraper II. Duettiste, coupled with Ethereal Blue and favorite in the bet-I ting was fourth. In the early running Sky Scraper II. went to the front and jumping in faultless fashion set his opponents a fast pace. He held a safe lead until after taking the twelf.h jump when Haynes sent Dunks Green up with a rush and passing the tiring pacemaker going to the last jump drew away at the end. Dan IV., hard held until going to the last jump, closed with a rush and was fairly flying at the end. His race was an impressive one. Duettiste made a bad landing at one of the jumps on the back stretch where he went to his knees and when he pulled up it was found that he suffered a severe gash on one of his shins which bled profusely. There was only one mishap when the tiring Bock Bass fell at the last jump. The race was worth ,930 to the winner. The Nursery Stakes fell to Rock Man, which won the Aberdeen Stakes at Havre de Grace recently. There were only five starters and Canter, the half-brother to Single Foot, was made favorite. He was never really dangerous. Rock Man took the lead at the start and held his rival safe throughout. Albert Johnson had the mount on Hock Man and he never lost an inch of ground during the running. Entering the home stretch he hung on to the inside rail while the others bore out a bit and at the end. Rock Man won apparently well in hand by two lengths and a half. It was a stirring finish for the second place between Ethereal and Canter, which fought it out all through the stretch and as they passed the judges Continued on eleventh page. The Xalpa Farm Stable scored another victory with the Prince Palatine colt Prince of Bourbon when the latter galloped home four lengths in front of Gold Stick in the Ashburton Purse. Prince of Bourbon was heavily backed and went to the post an odds-on favorite. He was waited with until rounding the far turn where he moved up on the outside and taking the lead kept increasing his advantage the remainder of the way. Prince of Bourbon was worked out the mile and an eighth in 1 :53%, as part of his preparation for the Preakness Stakes and Kentucky Derby. A stirring finish came with the running of the second race, a dash of four and a half furlongs, for two-year-olds. Princess Apple and Pheasant, which ran coupled as the R. W. Carter entry, outlasted their rivals and made the pace until rounding the far turn, where Curler and Little Blaze moved up and joined them. These four came into the home stretch heads apart. Princess Apple saved ground at the top of the lane, where her stable companion went a little wide. In the final drive the latter got to the front and, ridden out at the end, won going away by a couple of lengths. The next three horses were noses apart. The J. E. Davis entry, Storm King and Reparation, finished one-two in the third race, in whic hthey were favorites. Storm King, a rapid beginner, bounded to the front when the barrier was sprung and he remained there the entire way. Kennedy rated him in front until straightened out in the home stretch, where he drew away into a commanding lead and at the end he lead Reparation by five lengths. The latter was three lengths in front of Sun Altos. Prince Tii Tii proved best of the small field that went to the post in the fourth race. Sc-haefer avoided the early pace and was content to rate along off the pacemaker until straightened out in the home stretch. In the final eighth, when Deronda began to hang out distress signals. Prince Tii Til moved up and at the end won going away by half a length. Deronda was a neck in front of Setting Sun. Johnson saved ground with Deronda the entire way. He was lucky to be second, as Setting Sun would undoubtedly have won had he not been cut off and sent to his knees after pissing the half-mile post when Weiner, on Faenza, blocked him.
