Polvo was second by a narrow margin, and Grass Maid barely outlasted Pegasus for the show honors. Jockey A. Yerrat rushed the winner Into the lead at once, and at no time did the result appear to be in serious doubt. Grass Maid and Pegasus raced as a team all through the stretch, but the latter failed to display his usual courage when called upon in the final drive. His hard race on Saturday probably dulled the favorite Pegasus somewhat. Following Saturday nights heavy rain the track was In surprisingly good condition. Closing with a brilliant rush in the stretch, following a slow beginning, Messines outlasted Double Shot and Tister, the early leaders in the initial event. Miss Emmerson was caught in a jam shortly after the start and fell. Jockey A. Vinters, who had the mount, was severely shaken up, but suffered no serious injury. A keen stretch struggle developed between Bullet Proof and Miss Nancy in the second race and the former proved the gamer in the i final drive. Finday outstayed the tiring Gad for the short end of the purse. Romping Home appeared all over an easy winner entering the stretch in the sixth race but Nancy McKay gradually wore down the pacemaker and outgamed him in the final drive. Royaline came from far back to be third. Boosting showed the way to the stretch in the third with Mabel Seth in closest pursuit ;and Martha Roos following. In the run home Mabel Seth drew clear and won handily. j Boosting tired and Martha Roos outstayed her for second place.
