RACING AT BROOKLYN PARK * Move Over From Maple Heights to Other Cleveland Track. • Sonny II ill Victorious In Principal Attraction of I ay — Double for C. N. Freeman. f"T,KVKL,ANr , Ohio. June L — A series of claiming races made up the opening day card at Brooklyn Park this afternoon. The racing was spirited and form was well observed, five favorites scoring. After following the pace of Uncle Velo and Hopeful to the stretch. Sunny Hill closed up courageously and scored a handy victory in the seventh race, which attracted the best field of the day. Uncle Velo held the others safe and Mike Morrissey outstayed Hopeful for the show portion. Heal summerlike conditions prevailed and a good crowd journeyed to the course, despite the excessive heat. Marie Maxim, after disposing of Plaid, was returned a handy winner of the sixth race. Plaid tired in the run home and was beaten out of second place in the stretch test by Drummond. which closed a wide gap. With the three placed horses so closely aligned that the judges only were in a position to separate them, the opening race wa3 productive of the best finish of the afternoon. Though saving much ground at the first turn. One Gold Puck earned the verdict over Kdith Gibson. Golden Sweep finished third, was undoubtedly best, but lost much ground on the turns. Tister was much the best in the second race and slipped through on the side of Ksther Grindell at the first turn, then opened up a gap on her opponents and was taken in hand during the last few strides. Ks her Grindell bore out again entering the stretch and Dave Goldie easily beat her home for second place. C N. Freeman, owner of Tister, made it a double when Barberry accounted for the third race. He took command in the first quarter and retained the lead thereafter. Melvina easily disposed of Skoki in the stretch for second place. Boomerang made a show of his rivals in the fifth and never left the result in serious doubt, lledskin was as much the best of the others. In the final drive Buck Jones came from behind to beat Ix ch I-even for third. Rekab pulled up decidedly lame after the running of the second race, R. Guicardo, the Cleveland horseman, has taken over the contract on jockey Petrecca and J. Serio, trainer of the stable, will make the boys engagements in the future. Jockey A. Yerrat was taken ill after the running of the third race and was forced to cancel his remaining engagements. Jockey A. Yerrat departs tonight for Thorncliffe Park, Toronto. _ «
