A well-balanced program, which ha:i drawn large fields and which will be featured by the Queen City Purse at a mile and seventy yards, and the Oxford, a dash of three-quarters, holds promise of an auspicious openine. They are an evenly matched band and a keen race is in prospect. For the first time In recent years there is no steeplechase on the card. That there will be no lack of horses to fill the races during the meeting is indicated by the fact that every stall on the track is filled and many horsemen have been compelled to ship their charges to the Fair Grounds nearby to find stabling room. This is the first time that stabling room has been at a premium here in years and is indicative of the growing popularity of the sport in Canada. The track itself never looked prettier. Superintendent Koss has had a crew of men working en it for weeks. Showers last night and today drenched, precluding the possibility of a fast track, but fair weather has been promised for the opening and preparations have been made to handle a re*cord crowd.
